Abstract

Heliopolis Suburb was founded by Baron Empain In 1905, it includes the palace built in his name (Baron Empain Palace). Urbanization has begun in the last 20 years; because of the development of east Cairo's new urban projects on both sides of Suez road, which made the suburb one of the most important areas, Urban planning authorities are interested in infrastructure development such as the development of road networks, Bridges construction, and roads expansion, To solve the traffic overcrowding problem and achieve traffic flow to and from east Cairo new cities such as Madinaty, Al-Rehab, etc; to integrate New Cairo with Cairo itself.

The main aim of this paper is to study road network development projects and study their impact on social activities in the suburb. The research methodology relies on a theoretical approach that includes a descriptive approach to study the main theoretical concepts. And applied approach includes an analytical descriptive approach to study the case study (Heliopolis), and analyze the urban development that affected the suburb, As well as conducting social surveying for the study sample, Then analyze the result based on the suburb residents' opinion through the individual interviews, to measure their satisfaction of road networks development, and its impact on their social activities.
Finally, the research concluded with a set of results determining the Impact of urban development on the social activities in the suburb, the study explained that urban design has an important effect on social activities and formulating recommendations for future urban development processes.
